A heavy loaded post since it's been a while I didn't post anything...

Great tool for reviewing videos directly from Youtube or Vimeo. When I tried it, it only worked with Chrome (it didn't work on Waterfox, the 64-bit version of Firefox).

How to do visual comedy by Edgar Wright

Previously, I posted a video on how to do close-ups based on Edgar Wright films. This one is a great tutorial on visual comedy, also taking as example Mr. Wright's movies.

Three Point Landing

It's become a norm now that all superheroes land the same way. Maybe they go to the same superhero school?

CGTarian - Behind The Frames

There is a new series of videos in the CGTarian Youtube channel called "Behind the Scenes" that explain the different problems animators have to face when doing their shots. I believe the first one (by Jalil Sadool) is pure gold!

Here are the first two videos, but I'm sure there are more to come.

Progression Reels - Jeff Gabor and Cesc Pujol

Here are a couple of progression reels from animators Jeff Gabor and Cesc Pujol.

What impresses me the most about Jeff's video is how much detail he puts into the blocking process and how much is trimmed before the final animation.

Ice Age:Continental Drift Progression Reel from jeff gabor on Vimeo.

Cesc's video is interesting because it shows a mix of live reference and thumbnails. Again, compare the difference in the subtleties between the blocking and the final animation and you'll see a lot of changes.

Animating Realistic Sword Fights

I just finished reading an article at Gamasutra on how to properly handle a weapon during combat. Here's the link to said article.

It's co-written by an expert swrdsman and what he says applies to both how to properly handle a sword (and the correct stance for it) and some considerations on the technical stuff, like when rigging props.

A must read.

Enjoy!
